I continue to work through the Essential Blender book. I’ve done the user interface overview, and things are starting to sink in. I still have to double check on keyboard shortcuts, especially if I haven’t been back in the program for a day or so, but the main controls are becoming more and more automatic.
Tonight, I finished the basic modeling exercise. The result is not that exciting – not very detailed, no textures, nothing done with lighting or camera movement – but it feels like a good foundation. Often, becoming proficient at one of these programs is not just about learning how you do things – it’s about learning why one method is better than another and when you should take a certain approach, and especially about learning to see what you need to accomplish your vision and planning appropriately. Hopefully, I’ll continue to build that knowledge as well.
